SE QLD wasp season runs September through March. Warm overnight temperatures, abundant insect food, and our typical home construction (deep eaves, patio rafters, retaining wall cavities, garden sheds, swing sets, bbq covers) gives paper wasps and european wasps a perfect set of nesting sites. A single founding queen starts a nest in spring and the colony can reach hundreds of workers by autumn.
DIY wasp removal goes badly more often than people realise. Hardware-store wasp sprays are short-range and rely on the user being able to retreat without being stung. A disturbed paper wasp colony defends aggressively, and a european wasp colony can mobilise dozens of stings in seconds. Our wasp removal is fully insured, uses professional dust products applied directly to the nest entrance, and is fast enough that the colony cannot mobilise before treatment.

Paper wasp (Polistes humilis, Polistes variabilis)
The common one. Slender, 10 to 15mm, orange-brown with yellow markings. Builds the classic open honeycomb nest under eaves, patio rafters, inside swing sets, under outdoor furniture, in shed corners. Defensive, will sting when disturbed. Stings are painful but rarely medically dangerous for most people. Easily treated with a single targeted dust application.
European wasp (Vespula germanica)
The serious one. Stocky, 12 to 17mm, bright yellow and black. Builds enclosed papier-mache nests in roof voids, wall cavities, garden retaining walls, compost bins. Highly aggressive, mobilises in numbers when disturbed. Multiple stings are dangerous, including for non-allergic people. Found increasingly in SE QLD as the species spreads north. Needs professional treatment, do not attempt yourself.
Mud dauber wasp (Sceliphron formosum)
The harmless one. Slender, long, black with yellow legs. Builds small mud tubes on walls, ceilings, and inside sheds. Solitary, not defensive, almost never stings. We do not include mud dauber wasps in our 360 Ultimate Protection treatment because they pose no real risk, but we can remove the mud nests on request.

“Spraying the nest with hardware-store wasp killer works.” It often does not. Most over-the-counter wasp sprays are short-range and require you to stand within striking distance of an active nest. Paper wasps and european wasps both defend aggressively when disturbed. How quickly can you come out?
Same-day or next-day bookings are usually available during the peak season (September to March), especially for european wasp nests or paper wasp nests near front doors, play areas, or pool zones. Call us directly for emergency wasp removal.
Are the products safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Once the active treatment is complete and the nest is removed, the residual product on the surrounding surface is professional low-toxicity formulation safe for normal use. We work on external nests where possible to minimise indoor exposure.
Can I just spray the nest myself with a hardware-store product?
It works on small early-season nests if you can get close enough safely. It often fails on mature nests because most hardware-store products are short-range and require you to stand within striking distance of an active colony. European wasps especially do not respond well to disturbance, and the stings can be medically serious. Professional removal is faster, safer, and more reliable.
Why do you leave the nest in place for 24 hours after treatment?
Returning workers (out foraging at the time of treatment) need to contact the residual product at the nest to die. If we remove the nest immediately, returning workers do not have a target and start building a new nest within days. The 24 to 48 hour delay captures the full colony.
Is wasp removal included in the 360 Ultimate Protection?
Yes. Every 360 Ultimate Protection treatment includes wasp nest removal at the time of treatment. If a new nest establishes between treatments, send a photo and we book a follow-up under the PestiesProtect+ warranty. Mud dauber wasps are the only exclusion (they pose no real risk).

Call us immediately. Do not approach the nest. Do not attempt removal yourself. Same-day appointments are prioritised for sting-allergic households. Tell our office when you book so we can sequence the day accordingly.
