why se qld is spider country

warm coast, more spiders.

South-East Queensland has the warmest, most humid climate in mainland Australia outside the tropics. That suits almost every native spider species. Redbacks under outdoor furniture, huntsmen behind picture frames, white-tails in damp linen, garden orb weavers across patio doorways at sunset. Spider activity here peaks October through April and never fully drops off through winter.

Spider control is about webbing zones and harbourage, not chasing individual spiders. We treat the entry points and surfaces spiders use to set up webs, the dark voids they shelter in during the day, and the ground-level zones where ground spiders hunt. The treatment is residual, which means new spiders that move through the same zones after we leave still encounter the product.

Common spiders found in Gold Coast and Logan homes, identification chart

Redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti)

The serious one. Small (8-14mm), black with a distinctive red stripe. Loves dry sheltered outdoor spots: under outdoor furniture, inside bbq covers, in garden sheds, around pool pumps, in retaining wall cavities. Bite is medically significant and requires antivenom. Annual perimeter treatment plus targeted external dusting controls them effectively.

Huntsman spider (Sparassidae family)

The big one. Up to 15cm leg span, brown, flat body. Harmless but terrifying. Hunts at night, hides behind picture frames, under car visors, inside roof voids during the day. Spray treatment to internal voids and external roof line greatly reduces sightings inside.

White-tailed spider (Lampona cylindrata)

Medium (12-18mm), dark grey to black with a distinctive white tip on the abdomen. Hunts other spiders. Often found in linen, towels, shoes, and damp laundry piles. Bite causes a painful local reaction. Annual treatment plus a treatment under the bed and laundry zones handles them.

Garden orb weaver (Eriophora spp)

The web one. Builds a large circular web across patio doorways and garden paths every evening, often gone by morning. Harmless but startling when you walk into a web at dusk. External perimeter spray on eaves, patios, and pergolas keeps them off the building.

Australian house spider (Badumna insignis, Badumna longinqua)

The webbing one. Small to medium, dark, builds dense tangled webs in window frames, eaves, sheds, and roof voids. Most common spider on Gold Coast and Logan homes. Standard Annual Guardian treatment to eaves and window frames is highly effective.

how we work

4 steps. no shortcuts.

Every spider job follows the same process. We walk you through what we are doing as we go.

  1. 01 inspect

Full walk-through to identify species and webbing zones. Eaves, patios, sheds, roof void, dark internal voids, ground-level harbourage. Identification matters because redbacks need a different placement to webbing spiders.

  2. 02 spray

Professional residual product applied to webbing zones, eaves, window frames, door frames, patios, sheds, and pool equipment. External barrier on gutters, garden bed margins, and weep points.

  3. 03 bait

Spiders do not feed on bait, so this step shifts to a targeted dust treatment in roof voids and wall cavities where huntsmen and webbing spiders shelter during the day. Long-residual, contact-active formulation.

  4. 04 guarantee

PestiesProtect+ warranty signed on the day. Service record emailed within the hour. Photo policy and call-back terms in plain English.

questions

spider control faq

How long does a spider treatment take?

Most spider treatments take 45 to 75 minutes for a standard Gold Coast home. We work room by room internally, then move to eaves, patios, sheds, and pool equipment externally. Time depends on property size and how many webbing zones we identify.

Are the products safe for kids and pets?

Yes. We use professional low-toxicity formulations applied to Australian Standards. Once the product is dry (usually within 30 to 60 minutes) your home is safe for kids and pets. We avoid spray inside pet beds and food prep areas.

How quickly will the spiders disappear?

Webbing spider numbers drop visibly within the first week as new webs stop appearing. Ground spiders and huntsmen take 1 to 2 weeks as residual product takes effect. You may still see the occasional spider for 2 to 3 weeks as the residual works through harbourage zones, then activity drops sharply.

Do you treat redback spiders?

Yes. Redback control is part of our standard external treatment. We give extra attention to redback harbourage zones: under outdoor furniture, inside bbq covers, around pool pumps, retaining wall cavities, sheds. Annual treatment plus a dust application to known harbourage prevents nest re-establishment.

What if spiders come back?

Every Annual Guardian and 360° Ultimate treatment carries the PestiesProtect+ money-back guarantee. If covered spider activity returns inside the warranty window, send us a photo and we book a free service call. Full T&Cs on our warranty page.

How often should I treat for spiders?

Once a year is the right rhythm for most SE QLD homes. The 12-month PestiesProtect+ on the 360° Ultimate is built around this cycle. Heavily vegetated properties with lots of garden bed perimeter sometimes benefit from a 6-monthly schedule through the peak spider season (Oct-Apr).
