SE QLD has dozens of mosquito species, but five account for almost all backyard nuisance:
Common banded mosquito (Culex annulirostris): most common backyard mosquito, breeds in stagnant standing water (drains, plant pots, unsealed water tanks).
Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus): aggressive daytime biter, breeds in very small water sources (bottle caps, plant saucers, blocked gutters).
Dengue mosquito (Aedes aegypti): subtropical species, prefers indoor breeding, vector for dengue fever in northern QLD outbreaks.

How long does the treatment last?
A single yard barrier treatment provides 4 to 6 weeks of significant mosquito reduction. Through peak summer (Dec to Feb), repeating the treatment every 4 to 6 weeks maintains an 80 to 90% reduction in mosquito activity in the treated yard. We recommend an initial treatment in early October and follow-ups through to April.
Are the products safe for kids and pets?
Yes. We use professional low-toxicity formulations applied to Australian Standards. The treatment is applied to vegetation and structural surfaces, not directly to lawn areas where kids and pets spend most of their time. Once dry (usually 30 to 60 minutes) normal yard use is fine.
Will this affect bees and butterflies?
We apply outside peak pollinator activity windows (early morning or evening) and avoid direct application to flowering plants. The professional products we use have low residual toxicity to pollinators compared with consumer-grade insecticides. Source reduction (breaking the breeding cycle) does not affect pollinators at all.
Does it kill the mosquitoes that fly in from the neighbour’s yard?
Adult mosquitoes that fly into the treated yard from outside contact the residual product on vegetation and die within hours. We cannot stop new adults from flying in, but the residual barrier means activity in your yard drops dramatically even if the broader neighbourhood is heavily infested.
How is this different from a citronella candle or a sonic repeller?
Citronella candles work in the immediate 1 to 2 metre zone around the candle, and stop working the moment you move away or the wind shifts. Sonic repellers have no real-world evidence of working at all. A yard barrier treatment targets the entire outdoor zone simultaneously and lasts for weeks.
