Fleas can be a persistent problem, but with proper preparation and professional treatment, we can get it under control. Getting your home ready is a crucial part of the process. Here’s what we need you to do before we arrive.

Before the Treatment

1. Vacuum Thoroughly
Vacuum all carpets, rugs, floorboards, skirting edges, furniture, and even under cushions. Flea eggs can sit dormant in fibers for weeks. Vacuuming helps to remove loose eggs and also stimulates hatching by producing heat and vibration. Freshly hatched fleas are much more vulnerable to treatment.

After vacuuming, empty the vacuum contents into a sealed bag and place it straight into your outside bin.

2. Wash Pet Bedding and Blankets
Wash all pet bedding, soft toys, and blankets in hot water. If your pets sleep on your bed or couch, wash those covers too. This helps kill any hidden eggs or larvae and prevents reinfestation.

3. Treat Your Pets
Make sure your pets are treated with a vet-approved flea treatment either just before or on the day of your service. Skipping this step can risk undoing the treatment.

4. Tidy and Clear Floors
Pick up any clothes, toys, and items from floors. Clear access to all skirting boards, under beds, lounges, and other common flea hiding spots.

5. Mow the Lawn
If you’re having outdoor areas treated, mow your lawn shortly before we arrive. This helps expose shaded areas where fleas often hide and allows the product to reach the soil properly.

6. Inform Us About Fish Tanks or Reptiles
Flea treatments are safe for humans and pets once dry. However, if you have aquariums or reptile enclosures, cover them and let us know in writing before the visit. We’ll advise on any additional precautions.

After the Treatment

  • Stay off treated areas until completely dry, usually around 2 hours.
  • Do not vacuum for at least 7 days after treatment. This allows the residual product to keep working on newly hatched fleas.
  • Fleas may still be visible for up to 3 weeks after treatment. This is normal, as eggs continue to hatch and come into contact with the product. Activity will reduce over time.
